Tempering

Tempering is typically performed after heat treatment to release stress from the components and to adjust the hardness-level and the ductility of the components. Surface hardness is reduced and ductility is gained by the tempering operation.

Tempering can be performed under vacuum or under air depending on customer’s specification.

If tempering is performed under vacuum the components retain the shiny metallic surface and are ideally suited for subsequent coating processes.
